Summary: The Hokage calls in Gekkō Shinjirō to assign him a genin team
Shikimaru had been staring at the ceiling for exactly one hour, a pencil balanced on his nose. There were many files strewn across his desk. A couple there for cross referencing family traits and what have you. He had made his decision and summoned the chosen ANBU member, to arrive in another twentyish minutes. He was ninety-eight percent certain that this was the right choice, though it was very much so an unorthodox one. It wasn't very often ANBU were taken off the squad and placed back into position of a normal Jounin. Usually when they were, it was their own choosing, like when Kakashi had left Anbu all those years ago.
"This job can be so bothersome...." Shikimaru sighed, but he knew somewhere deep down that this was the right choice, that only Tenko- no from here on out he'd be Shinjiro again, could do. He nodded as he leafed through the shinobi's illustrative file. There was tonnes of dedicated work for the village. And 2 of the villages next leaders were on this team, Hiro and Midori Ookami, two heirs to one clan. The political and militant. They were raised to have vastly different fighting styles, and Hiro's marks were a fair bit higher than his sisters, and then there was Kame, who ranked in the middle. Some may not understand why a girl who wasn't very good with combat would be placed on this team, but her other marks from academy was the key.
Analyzing it over and over again, he had a tracker squad that specialized in kenjutsu, traps and taijutsu. Shinjiro was fast, strong, and a very good tracker to boot. This would work out excellently. Shikimaru nodded, sending the pencil flying off his nose and landing on his desk, rolling, but not falling off for it collided with a potted flower that Ino had left to liven the place up. He didn't really like it, it wasn't nearly manly enough, but he didn't dare get rid of it and make her angry. He smiled picking up the pencil and making a small note on a piece of paper.
"Yes, another good move, I'm now a hundred percent certain." He declared, before looking left and right. Sometimes being Hokage could be lonely, he understood why Naruto had left for whatever pilgrimage it was he was on. Naruto never would have been able to handle this amount of sitting around and doing nothing but paper work. Shikamaru found it to be a pain himself, but suffered through it anyway, freeing up time for more restful and peaceful activites, like Shogi, Go or cloud watching. Cloud watching was what he was doing now that he had reconfirmed his confidence in his choice. It wasn't often, but every once in awhile he would second guess himself.
"That cloud looks like a bunny." Shikimaru announced to the still empty room. It was really a shame to take Tenko, err Shinjiro off of ANBU, nonetheless he had to think for the future. Shinobi like Shinjiro weren't getting any younger, but there were more and more genin to train. During time like these, they were the most important, no they always are the most important. He nodded, he was prepared, he had the words ready to explain this decision. It's bothersome, but I might as well read these files one last time to get all the information straight, sped through Shikimaru's mind, a small smile of pride crept onto his face. He loved victories, even ones over his subconscious.
